We’re back with another card preview, and this time its the roaring, stomping Restless Ridgeline from Magic The Gathering (MTG) The Lost Caverns of Ixalan set, thanks to our friends at Wizards of the Coast.

Restless Ridgeline is a great addition to any Dinosaur MTG deck, acting as a land capable of supplying mana in both Red and Green- the optimal colors for summoning something big and deadly. However, there’s more to this prehistoric plot than meets the eye.

Restless Redgeline enters the battlefield tapped

[Tap] Add [R] or [G]

[2][R][G]: Restless Ridgeline becomes a 3/4 red and green Dinosaur creature until end of turn. It’s still a land.

Whenever Restless Ridgeline attacks, another target attacking creature gets +2/+0 until end of turn. Untap the creature.

So early on, Restless Ridgeline is a very flexible source of mana- you won’t have to worry about only having either red or green, though the price you pay for that is you can’t use it on the turn you play it since it enters tapped.

However, its second ability is great for those of you who walk the path of mindless aggression- Restless Ridgeline itself gets up and joins the fight, becoming a Dinosaur Land Creature, and buffing one other creature with a +2/+0.

Needless to say, this card pairs well with any number of rushdown strategies- Garruk’s Uprising is the most obvious- if you’re playing a Red/Green deck chances are you’re summoning some big creatures, and the +2 can make all the difference if you’re planning to deal trample damage to your opponent.

Within the same Lost Caverns of Ixalan set, you can even consider Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant. This creature cheats out even more creatures if you can afford his big price tag- more than enough to get more fodder on the field to buff.

There’s also Rampaging Geoderm- armed with a similar ability to Restless Ridgeline, a lucky creature in your collection could get a total +3/+1 boost- more than some creatures have altogether. Consider pairing this with Regisaur Alpha, whose summoned token lackey will become a 6/4 with trample and haste.

The untap ability also does a good job of covering you if your opponent survives your assault- assuming you haven’t lost your buffed creature, it’s untapped and free to activate any tap abilities after attacking.

On one more note, this card is available in two treatments- one as a regular standard card and once more in a gorgeous Borderless rendition as part of Project Booster Fun. I’m personally a big fan of the borderless art, since it shows the Restless Ridgeline getting up to do what Red/Green creatures are best known for.
