Atlus has announced Persona: The Phantom X (referred to as P5X) or Persona: Phantom of The Night (it doesn’t have an official English title yet). It is the first official mobile game in the Persona series and is now available for pre-order from its official website. The game is currently only launching in China.

A Beta test of the game for the game will also occur on the 29th of March 2023. You can check out the announcement trailer below:

According to the website, the new game is themed around “desire”, and “tells a new story of teenagers who have awakened the ability of “Persona Masks” who meet and get acquainted, face difficulties side by side, and grow under the background of “low desire”. The mysterious old man with a long nose, the strange underwater room, an owl that can speak human language, a world completely different from reality, these seemingly unrelated things are connected together because of a certain opportunity…”

Gameplay-wise it’s confirmed that like the original Persona 5, the main characters will live a double life, acting as high school students during the day and phantom thieves at night, summoning personas into turn-based battles with all-out attacks.

The Characters 

Alongside the original phantom thieves, a few new characters have been revealed so far. Keep in mind these character names are rough translations and may not be the official English localized names (thank you for the translations Wanuxi).

There is the new protagonist, a second-year high school student at Kiba High who lives alone at home. His codename is Wonder and his persona is Janosik.

Arai Suwa is a second-year high school girl at Kiba High. She is a popular student who’s heavily into sports. Her codename is Closer and her persona is Awilda.

Luffy is a mysterious owl-like creature that can turn into a van. He possesses a calm and steady personality (they already sound ten times better than Morgana). His codename is Cattle and his persona is Rob Roy.

Update 17/03/23 – The new attendant’s name is Merope (again, this is a rough translation).

They have also revealed the design for the new velvet room attendant however they haven’t revealed her name. The Velvet Room in this game seems to take the form of an aquarium of some sort.

The game is being developed by Perfect World Games’ Black Feather Studio in partnership with Atlus and Sega. The character designs are being done by the primary Persona artist Shigenori Soejima.

A number of screenshots of the game have also been released showing more of the gameplay as well as the appearance of Joker and the other Phantom Thieves.

Persona: The Phantom X will launch for mobile devices in China. It is not currently confirmed whether the game will be arriving in international regions.
