So do you remember the opening prologue for the original Dark Souls, showcasing the different lords, setting the atmosphere of the game, all the with the narrator’s soothing voice, well that narrator was Pik-Sen Lim, a Malaysian from Penang.

Pik-Sen Lim, born Lim Phaik-Seng is a British-Malaysian born in Penang in 1944 during the Japanese occupation of Malaya. As of 2022, she is 77 years old.

She was born the daughter of a palm oil millionaire named Lim Cheng-Teik and moved to the UK when she was 16 where she studied at the London School of Dramatic Art.

Since then she appeared in a number of roles on British TV shows to the point that the British Film Institute called her “probably the most familiar Chinese actor on British television screens in the 1970s and 80s”.

Programs that she appeared in include ‘Emergency Ward 10’, ‘The Flaxton Boys’, and ‘Mind Your Language’. A more familiar name that she appeared in however was The Classic Series of Doctor Who.

Lim appeared in the Doctor Who serial ‘The Mind of Evil’ which consisted of six 25-minute episodes alongside the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee). She played the role of Captain Chin Lee, a delegate at a peace conference between the UK and China. She is mind-controlled by The Master (Roger Delgado) before being rescued by the Doctor.

Decades later, Lim would act as the narrator throughout the entire Dark Souls Trilogy. She was far older at this point however her voice acting is still on point.

So, next time you’re playing any of the Dark Souls and you hear the narrator, remember, she is voiced by a Malaysian actress.
