Demon Slayer Malay subs go viral due to crude “penis” translation

Demon Slayer Season 2 is now met with controversy in Malaysia after the Malay subtitles on Netflix used a rather contentious translation.

In episode 2, “Infiltrating the Entertainment District”, there is a scene of Tengen Uzui dragging Zenitsu Agatsuma away. The Sound Hashira then states, “It’s still too early for you.” Reddit user u/fez_up93 on the r/Malaysia subreddit posted two images of the same scene, comparing both the English and Malay subtitles.

Note that the line Tengen says in Japanese is “お前にはまだ早い”, which literally means “it’s still too early for you”. The problem is the Malay subtitles, which when translated to English, reads:

“Your penis doesn’t even have hair, yet it’s already itching.”

Demon Slayer Season 2 is no stranger to controversy. When the first episode aired, the series was criticised for depicting a polygamous relationship involving Tengen Uzui.
