Ubisoft appears to be working on a new Ghost Recon game, according to comments made by company executives during a recent shareholder meeting. The news comes as a surprise since the gaming giant hasn’t officially announced any new project for the military shooter series.
CEO Yves Guillemot let the information slip while discussing Ubisoft’s live service game strategy. When talking about Rainbow Six Siege’s success, Guillemot mentioned the company’s plans to “capitalize on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon.” This marks the first time the public has heard about a new game from the franchise being in the works.

The details became clearer when CFO Frederick Duguet was asked about how Ubisoft plans to use recent investment money from Tencent. Duguet explained that part of the funds would go toward developing “major brand names,” specifically mentioning Ghost Recon as an example of their “first-person-shooter-type games.”
The last main entry, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, didn’t perform well with critics or players when it launched. The poor reception was so significant that it caused Ubisoft to delay several major games to focus on improving quality. The company also had to cancel Ghost Recon Frontline, a planned live service game, before it could launch.

When asked about the executives’ comments, a Ubisoft spokesperson confirmed the company’s commitment to the series without revealing specifics. The accidental reveal suggests Ubisoft is ready to give the franchise another shot, despite past setbacks. However, fans will have to wait for an official announcement to learn more about what direction the new game will take.
