Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics has let go of around 30 employees in what marks at least the fourth round of job cuts at the studio in two years. The company announced the layoffs, saying the cuts affect workers across multiple departments and projects. Crystal Dynamics stated the move is part of efforts to “restructure the company and business for our next generation.”
According to the studio, the layoffs are meant to “optimize the continued development of our flagship Tomb Raider game” while preparing the rest of the company to create new titles in the future.
“Crystal deeply thanks all of those impacted for their incredible talent, hard work, and dedication, which helped shape the studio in so many ways,” the company said in its announcement. “We are committed to offering our fullest resources and support to you during this transition.”

This marks the latest in a series of workforce reductions at the studio. Crystal Dynamics previously cut jobs in August, shortly after Microsoft cancelled its Perfect Dark reboot, which the studio had been helping to develop.
Before that, 17 employees lost their jobs in March, with the company saying the cuts were needed to “align our current business needs and the studio’s future success.” The studio also laid off several workers in September 2023 as part of internal changes. Crystal Dynamics is currently working on a new Tomb Raider game that Amazon will publish, as announced in December 2022.
