The Shining Force series has been a SEGA classic back in the ’90s. It has been some of our childhood games and now it has come to our mobile devices! We can now play the trilogy of the Shining Force series with SEGA’s Shining Force Classics on either our iOS or Android devices, for FREE! The trilogy includes Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention and Shining Force II!

If you recall, the first of the trilogy, Shining in the Darkness, is a first-person turn-based RPG that puts us to explore 3D dungeon mazes. There is a main story line paired with dungeon exploration. Random monsters will appear and there are also boss fights as well. Following the story, there are 3 characters that need rescuing and rescuing any or all of them changes the story.

While the second one which is Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention that is a little different than the first one. It is still a turn-based strategic RPG but it’s not in first-person nor is it in 3D anymore. The game is alike Final Fantasy but the battle system is like Fire Emblem where you need to move your characters into place strategically before selecting an order.

Last but not least, we have Shining Force II which retains its tactical turn-based RPG from the previous Shining Force. Just like in Shining Force, each character that reaches Level 20 can be promoted to a stronger class. However this time, there are more characters that can be recruited with some needing to trigger special events before recruiting them.

These games are the epitome of games back in the ’90s that have contributed to many of the games that exist today. The game has become references to games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem which we now love and enjoy as well.
