On August 23, REMOW Co., Ltd. officially announced that the critically acclaimed psychological thriller LIAR GAME by Shinobu Kaitani will receive its first-ever TV anime adaptation. A teaser trailer and key visual was revealed, with the series scheduled to debut in 2026. Global streaming details will be revealed at a later date.
The adaptation will be produced by Madhouse Inc, the esteemed animation studio behind Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Orb: On the Movements of the Earth.
A Landmark Psychological Thriller

Originally serialised in Weekly Young Jump from 2005 to 2015, LIAR GAME quickly established itself as a prominent work in delivering intense psychological battles and mind games. The story follows a naive and straightforward protagonist who, alongside a genius former swindler, must navigate the dangerous battleground of deception and strategy.
What put LIAR GAME on the map was its relentless highlighting on the dark and light sides of human nature, revealing greed, fear , trust, and betrayal in their rawest forms. Each arc brought out new games that forced participants to manipulate one another, raising questions about ethics, human behaviour, and the fragile concept of trust in society. Readers were not only drawn to the convoluted rules and schemes but also to the emotional toll these games took on the players, creating a compelling blend of tension and character-driven drama.
Over the last 20 years, the series has become a cultural touchstone. It has inspired a popular 2007 live-action drama, a 2010 feature film, and even a 2023 stage play, keeping its legacy alive despite it being long after the manga’s conclusion. Now, the anime adaptation will bring Kaitani’s high-stakes battles of trust and betrayal to a global audience.
Creator and Staff Comments
Shinobu Kaitani (Original Creator) has mention that “when LIAR GAME first started, it carried the theme of ‘the importance of trust.’ Twenty years later, after the rise of social media and a more distrustful world, I feel the theme is more relevant than ever. I hope both longtime fans and newcomers resonate with the story.”
The production staff shared similar excitement, with Chief Director Yuzo Sato saying “having previously adapted Kaitani’s One Outs, I’m thrilled to work on his most representative work. I’ll do my best to deliver an adaptation worthy of its legacy,” and Asami Kawano (Director) noting “while the strategies and deception are thrilling, the real appeal lies in the drama and relationships. I’ll give my all to capture that essence.”
