Arrowhead Game Studios has dropped a tantalising hint that Helldivers 2 could soon see a crossover with the Halo franchise. The tease arrives just weeks before the co-op shooter’s Xbox Series X launch on August 26.
In a new promo video for the Xbox release, the trailer initially blasts with P.O.D.’s signature Christian rap-metal. But in the closing moments, the tone shifts dramatically to the jazzy motif from Halo 3: ODST’s soundtrack.
Viewers also spot what appears to be an M8900 Single Occupant Exoatmospheric Insertion Vehicle, better known as the ODST drop pod, landing in one of Helldivers 2’s mega cities. For fans, that’s as clear a hint as it gets.
Past Crossovers and Cautious Choices
Helldivers 2 previously tapped Guerrilla Games’ Killzone universe for a December crossover, adding Helghast armour and themed cosmetics. Despite the game’s huge popularity, Arrowhead has been selective about crossovers to “avoid IP dilution”.
Chief Creative Officer Johan Pilestedt has mentioned potential interest in sci-fi icons like Aliens, Terminator, Blade Runner, and Starship Troopers. On Reddit last year, he noted the line would likely be “somewhere between Halo in general and making Master Chief playable.”
What to Expect
If the Halo 3: ODST collaboration with Helldivers 2 becomes a reality, it will probably bring:
- ODST armour sets
- Halo-inspired weapons
- Cosmetic items like flags and capes
No official release date for the crossover content has been announced as for now.
Xbox Release Date
Helldivers 2 lands on Xbox Series X on August 26, the same day Gears of War: Reloaded makes its PlayStation debut.
