[ Guide ] Recommended characters in Alchemy Stars

With the official launch of Alchemy Stars, there will be certain characters you’d find recommended more over others, as is typical for a gacha game. As such, here’s a guide to know what to look out for, not just for rerolling purposes, but also for next time. Does not include Collab characters due to unpredictability of reruns.

STARTING OUT

Opt to build a mono-elemental team first. Majority of the starting characters in Alchemy Stars you get are Water attribute, so that can be where you choose to start. Characters have their own skills too, of course, and with five units to a team, here is a recommended priority of roles to have:

1. Tile conversion
2. Combo
   • Additional attack buffs and defense debuffs where possible
3. Utility skills
   • Movement / teleports, status effects, crowd control
4. Specialized
   • Pure DPS / Healers

Having lower rarity characters on hand will be handy especially considering the elemental Spires existence. Just don’t expect them to be your primary DPS. As your captain can attack with any colour tile, they can be off-element.

You could consider not having a Combo-boosting unit if you don’t have enough Converters: if you can’t connect enough tiles, you won’t be able to maximize chain combos anyway.

CHARACTER RECOMMENDATIONS

WATER

6☆	Carleen	DPS / Teleporter / Converter / Knockback	Her cooldown is relatively long, but considering how much she can do by herself, it's hard to not recommend building her.
	Sharona	DPS / Teleporter	Ramps up her own damage and relocate the team.
	Connolly	DPS / Control	After changes to her kit, she can at least offer more damage when you're in need of some range.
	Raphael	Converter / Healer	Packs a punch, just don't rely on her to be your primary Converter or Healer.
	Bethlehem	Converter / Buffer	Would prefer Breakthrough 3 for Pre-emptive on her active skill, and also Ascension 3 to be a party buffer. Pretty nice, if high investment.
	Sariel	Converter	The no-frills converter.
	Fleur	DPS	Single-target focused with some splash damage. Does falter a little if the enemy has a shield.
	Bethel	DPS	High damage potential with equipment.
	Ruby	Converter / DPS / Knockback	Converting tiles across the field while also knocking back enemies and isn't lacking on single-target damage; it's a lot.
	Azure	DPS / Pseudo-Converter	Some flexibility in being able to provide either AOE damage or connecting tile clusters.
	Vice: Keen Sight	DPS	An upgraded version of a 5-star incarnation with more focused-damage capabilities.
	Nina	DPS	Mode-switching for two flavours of AOE damage. Gets diagonal attacks when Unarmed. Might be finicky for those who prefer someone simpler as there's cooldown manipulation potential.
	Fia	Debuffer / DPS	Arguably only best for a mono-Water team, but the Damp effect could be handy for any team able to slot her in for on-elemental bonus damage.
	Regal	DPS	Capable of high raw damage, with some set up and timing.
5☆	Philyshy	Healer / Teleporter	Offers quite a lot of healing even without a chain combo, and can relocate.
	Hydrad	Combo	Besides explosive combos, he offers some retaliation damage should he get hit.
	Barton	Converter / DPS / Knockback	Can get diagonal attacks, besides the conversion utility and damage.
	Kleken	Converter / Control	Your standard Converter, with some crowd control flavour.
	Corax	Teleporter / DPS	His teleport is pretty restrictive, granted. Would prefer higher investment to offer more damage potential.
	Allura	DPS	Simple skill nuker.
4☆	Tweety	Teleporter	Low rarity teleporter option. Focus on her utility as she won't have much else.
	Ms. Blanc	Converter / Buffer	If need be, she'll be here. While her buff may be nice, it's reliant on her being above 90% HP.
3☆	Zoya	Healer	When all else fails, Zoya will do her best.

FIRE

6☆	Victoria	Healer / Bleed	Pretty much the healer you want to enable Bleed synergy.
	Charon	DPS / Converter / Knockback	Diagonal attacks, knockback and tile reset.
	Uriel	Converter / Burn	Resets non-Red. If you're running Burn, you'll want her.
	Sinsa	DPS	Can reduce enemy defense, wide skill AOE. Bonus in being able to shift positions by one tile. Diagonal attacks.
	Jona	DPS	Mode change on 1 turn cooldown, also offers tile-count reduction for combos Could stand to have easier to use DPS too, however.
	Eicy	Converter / DPS / Healer	Essentially a no-frills converter.
	Smokey	Teleporter / Converter	Teleport comes with tile reset. Damage is on diminishing returns.
	Gram	DPS / Teleporter	Self-sustaining, gradually ramping up DPS who can relocate himself.
	Novio	Healer / DPS	Heals, shields and damage on overhealing.
	Giles	DPS	Leaning to high-risk, high reward playstyle due to his Sanity system.
	Carleen: Smoldering Soul	Teleporter / Converter / DPS	A slightly more restrictive version from her Water incarnation due to the resource system, and doesn't have as wide a conversion range. Leans towards an aggressive playstyle.
	Lilica	Teleporter / Supporter / DPS	Offers mobility, with full Ascension and upgraded equipment capable of doing true damage.
5☆	Faust	Converter	Your standard converter. He has Fright, but at such low odds, don't bother about it.
	Taki	DPS	Potential to scale damage more so when against multiple waves.
	Istvan	Combo	Besides enabling explosive combos, he can debuff enemy attack.
	Genevieve	Teleporter / DPS	Teleport range will need to be worked around. Has a self-synergistic kit to deal damage and heal, while providing extra range and damage for the party.
	Maggie	Converter / Knockback	Another converter option. Can camp up her own damage and reduce combo requirement.
4☆	Nails	DPS / Bleed	Has DEF ignoring damage, but is dependent on external healing. If you have good sustain, he can't ramp up the damage that needs him to be at lower HP.
	Alice	Healer	For when you lack Novio or Philyshy.
	Brock	DPS / Taunt / Buffer	Best used in stages with more enemies due to how he scales via equipment.
3☆	Pepi	Teleporter	When all else fails and you need a way to relocate.

FOREST

6☆	Nikinis	Converter	Pretty much a no frills converter.
	Hiiro	DPS / Converter	Somewhat self-synergistic kit with enhanced tiles, which itself is easy to get within Forest.
	Gabriel	Converter	Somewhat mechanically unusual converter who can generate enhanced tiles passively on crossing enough on-element tiles.
	Migard	DPS / Teleporter	Excels at single target damage but still good regardless, and can execute low HP enemies.
	Beryl	DPS	Offers quite a lot of nuke damage and wide-reaching AOE.
	Hedy	Converter / Teleporter	Works like Carleen-lite, where she doesn't really attack herself.
	Paloma	Converter / DPS	Fairly large range. Own DPS is dependent on stacks that can fall off.
	Lenore	DPS	Leans to high-risk, high-reward play thanks to Sanity mechanic. As is, chain combo requirement is very high and won't have the damage multiplier.
	Barton: Deft Blades	DPS	Can have diagonal attacks like his initial version. Has some resource management for 'stances' but can still dish out damage in both forms.
	Mythos	DPS	Capable of massive nukes.
	Goldie	Converter	While not considered a high tier unit herself, she does offer a relatively more useful and fun gimmick with her style of tile conversion.
5☆	Odi	DPS (Poison) / Debuffer	If it's got a lot of HP and not immune to poison, bring her in.
	Pact	Converter	Besides converting, she has minor recovery effects and Slow.
	Areia	DPS	Capable of incredibly high damage. Does have "off" turns when her buff falls off.
	Sikare	Converter / DPS	The damaging converter option who deals fixed HP-based damage on first hit, disregarding shields.
	Louise	Combo	Has heal besides enabling double chain combos.
	Naroxel	Teleporter	Also enhances tiles on teleport, but won't be Green.
	Brandy	Converter	Easily obtainable with max Breakthrough for tile conversion.
4☆	Wendy	Teleporter	Offers a unique teleport mechanic to play around, or when you just really have no other mobility option.
	Uriah	Healer	Pretty much the only reliable healer for the element.
	Pasolo	'Converter' / Bleed	Utility in bridging gaps and single-tile conversion. Damage over time via Bleed.
3☆	Ophina	Converter	When you really need to swap that one tile and you've got no one else.

THUNDER

6☆	Michael	DPS / Teleporter	Does plenty of damage. Can teleport too.
	Gronru	Converter	No enhanced tiles, but being able to convert is always handy.
	Irridon	Converter	Relatively flexible tile conversion.
	Eve	DPS	Ramp up damage, granted the long cooldowns does affect her overall damage.
	Revy	DPS	Gets to ramp up in longer battles. Has diagonal attacks.
	Luke	DPS	Offers high DPS, more so if the enemies move around.
	Florine	Combo / DPS	Has her own DPS besides enabling those combos.
	Amemori	Teleporter / DPS	Theoretically able to teleport all over the place as well as deal defense ignoring damage.
	Reinhardt	DPS / Buffer	Ramp up time needed without duplicates, but is definitely incredibly powerful.
	Pollux	Converter / DPS	Can do some shifting too.
	Axelia	Healer / Flex	Can theoretically try copying her party members' skills to double up on some of your preferred skills.
	Requiem	DPS	Can especially shine in situations with many enemies.
5☆	Dayna	DPS	Can throw down an AOE nuke.
	Sadie	DPS	Equipment buffs her, with Normal attacks hitting high ceilings.
	Nemesis	Converter	The Thunder option for this type of conversion.
	Pittman	DPS	Start shoving things around and deal damage with it.
	Beverly	Converter	No frills converter.
	Roy	Healer / Converter	Be around his bees and he can do healing and some single-tile conversion too.
	Sanae	DPS	Having defense ignoring damage is always nice.
	Ciel	Converter	Has some defense ignoring damage on top of her utility.
	Schwartz	DPS	Deals HP% damage, also can buff himself.
4☆	Nadine	Healer	Lantern has a single tile conversion.
	Tessa	DPS	Make her captain and watch the numbers fly.
	Hachi & Gin	DPS	Budget option for some raw damage burst.
3☆	Eho	Teleporter	When all else fails and you need mobility.
	Amy	Healer	When all else fails and you need healing.
