SEGA has announced that Goro Majima, also known as Captain Majima, is coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds as a free update on April 30. The update also kicks off a limited-time event called the Captain Majima Festival, which starts on May 1.

Players who download the update will be able to race as Captain Majima using his signature vehicle, the Goromaru. Alongside the new character, the update adds four tracks from the Like a Dragon series. These tracks can also be set as background music for races through the in-game Jukebox. The new songs included are:

• Receive You The Hyperactive
• Receive You The Hyperactive (Final Lap version)
• Mad Dog (Jukebox only)
• Now or Never (Jukebox only)

Starting May 1, a special in-game event called the Captain Majima Festival will run until May 4, 2026, at 7:59 AM (UTC+8). During the event, players pick one of three teams and compete to earn the most points. Each race comes with its own challenge, such as performing the most Touch Boosts or completing other objectives. Earning Festival Points lets players unlock exclusive rewards including a new decal, horn, and more. SEGA has noted that festival-exclusive gadgets will be made available in future updates, and that alternative ways to obtain festival rewards may also be added later.

There are also a couple of ways to get into the game at a lower cost. The PlayStation Store is offering a 40% discount on the standard edition of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and that sale runs until May 6, 2026.

On Steam, the full version of the game will be free to play from May 1 to May 5, 2026, until 1:00 AM (UTC+8). Players who try the game during the free period and decide to purchase it afterward will be able to carry over their save data.
