It appears that Square Enix isn’t done with its roughly 10-year-old mobile Final Fantasy game just yet. On October 19, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions received a much-requested major mobile update that brings 60 frames-per-second performance, controller support, and several gameplay improvements to its iPhone, iPad, and Android versions. The update also marks the first major update to the mobile release in several years, giving returning players more reasons to revisit the classic strategy game.
Controller support gives players an alternative to the touchscreen controls, which have been the primary way to navigate battles and menus on mobile. Meanwhile, gameplay is set to be buttery smooth with the new 60 FPS update.
The patch also adds a fast-forward feature, allowing players to speed up gameplay when they want to move through encounters more quickly. Square Enix has updated the battle interface and changed the font to improve readability, alongside other bug fixes.

Originally released as an enhanced version of the 1997 Final Fantasy Tactics, The War of the Lions expands the original game with additional scenarios, jobs and animated cutscenes. Its turn-based battles require players to position units carefully, exploit terrain and manage character abilities to overcome opposing forces.
These improvements arrive as the franchise continues to reach players on newer platforms. Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles, a more recent release, is available on modern consoles and PC, giving newcomers another way to experience the series.

The mobile update does not replace that release, but it makes The War of the Lions more accessible for players who prefer gaming on their phones or tablets. Existing owners can check their respective app stores for the latest version and update availability.
