Apple Arcade has launched 20 new games for the gaming subscription platform, playable on all Apple devices from Apple TV to iOS and MacOS.
These games join the over 200 titles on the service, and even includes reworked versions of older free to play titles with elements like ads removed.
Four of these titles are available now, including TMNT: Splintered Paths, Disney Spellstruck, Cityscapes Sim Builder as well as What The Car.
TMNT: Splintered Fate
As a roguelike with co op features, this game has you playing as the four turtles on a roguelike adventure to save Master Splinter.
TMNT Splintered Fate is developed by Super Evil Megacorp, while being published by Paramount for Apple Arcade.
The game will has you looking for buffs to empower your turtles on each run, though each turtle will also feature their own unique moves.
“Each turtle has a base attack that has unique differences on the design side, as well as what we call a tool”, says Ian Fielding, CEO of Super Evil Megacorp. “We have a base starting tool, but you can also swap that out between other tools if you get offered it as a roguelike perk. There is a base design that is unique to that turtle, as well as the opportunity to flex that or shape that based on the kind of RNG you get out of your rewards”
Disney Spellstruck is a word game featuring popular Disney and Pixar characters like Princess Tiana, Donald Duck and more and developed by Artist Acade and Fun & Games.
It features a story mode to let you collect more characters, as well as a versus and challenge mode
Interestingly enough, the developers were heavily targeting an all-ages approach, settling on dynamic difficulty.
“So we wrote a dynamic AI difficulty system”, says David Bettner, CEO of Fun & Games. “So whether it’s you on your account or your daughter playing with hers, it’ll match to her skill level. As a father I’ve found that it does work well back and forth. If I play and then my kid does, we can go back and forth on it”.
Cityscapes Sim Builder
This game takes the infamous city building genre and brings it to mobile devices, being playable on both touch screens as well as Mac computers.
Developed by Magic Fuel Games, you’d be able to build across huge biomes, and even build various real-world landmarks to improve your city.
“We were thinking about the game for mobile first. A lot of what we did was just visualize all the numbers so its really easy to read what’s going on and adding more data layers that you can read into”, says Kip Katsarelis, CPO at Magic Fuel games. “If you’re an old school PC gamer theres a lot of stats to look into and if you’re a more casual mobile gamer they’ll probably live in the data layers a little bit”.
What The Car
Following up the success of What The Golf, What The Car sees you playing as a surreal car with legs, as you cross multiple level with a variety of fun and random twists.
“This is a little bit of a bigger world. What The Golf had a big campaign, but there’s just something interesting [here] because you’re a car, and you have legs and you go places because you can and it’s just like we like to give players these weird things that you can stumble upon out in the open like a giraffe circus or a big cow that shoots lasers out of its eyes. So its mostly us just wanting to make silly, stupid stuff”, says Lasse Astrup, Lead Designer at Tribad.
For fans of absurdist humor, you’ll want to check this one out- if nothing else to see just how many more layers of zany you can get in the biggest of the What The series from Tribad.
Those are far from the only games joining the stacked lineup for Apple Arcade in May, however- many more games will be available on the service, including made-for-Arcade versions of popular titles like Kingdom Two Crowns and Getting Over It with Bennet Foddy.
