We’re are back again with Gamescom 2019. We managed to get an interview with the producer of Dragonball Z: Kakarot, Ryosuke Hara. We also mangaged to try out the game too as well so look forward to that.
While we tried out the game, we noticed that the game is not exactly an open world game as expected. There are seems sort of restricted from players from proceeding the area. It turns out there are story based restriction area where players can’t visit the place until they have completed the required story. Let’s say if you are in Namek planet, you can’t go back to Earth until you finished the story on Namek. After that then, you can go back to Earth. You can also switch between the areas as well but not when it is restricted by the story progression.
There are four playable characters in Dragonball Z: Kakarot which is Son Goku, Son Gohan, Piccolo and Vegeta. Sorry, a correction. There are 6 playable character with newly revealed at the Gamescom 2019 that Cell Saga and Future Trunks will also be a playable characters in Dragonball Z: Kakarot. Within these six characters, you are able to choose freely on which character you liked. However, during the story sequence, you will be switched automatically to the character in that story. The developers wanted to stay true to the lore of Dragonball Z: Kakarot so they implemented this so the fans get to stick the main storyline of the Dragonball Z.
Besides that, they introduced Bonyu a new character to the game as well! We can’t really say too much details on her but what we know is Bonyu is designed by the legend, Toriyama himself! Bonyu is a former member of Ginyu Force who left the Force because she doesn’t want to be a part of the oppression. She won’t be part of the main storyline but she will appear in some parts of the short sequence. That’s all we can get about Bonyu from the developer, Ryosuke Hara.
Another thing when we tried out the game we also noticed that talking to there are little voice over when it comes to chatting with the NPC. Not to worry! When it comes to the full game. There will be more voice over implemented to the game. Makes you feel a part of the world of Dragonball as the characters can talk outside the story as well.
Another great addition to the game that some of the filler episodes from the TV anime series Dragonball Z will also be in the game. Obviously, not all the filler episode will be in the game due to sheer amount of filler episodes inside the anime itself. For me, it is good enough that some made it to the game. Makes me feel the nostalgia all over again. Sadly, we can’t change the characters clothing nor changing the skin of the character. The developers wanted to stay true to the lore so the skins or the clothing will stick to the characters as the same as the original clothing.
Before meeting up with the producer, we just HAVE to try out the demo for Dragonball Z: Kakarot. Let me tell you the fight is so intense. We actually surprised that Cell Saga uses Tien skill to multiply himself. The developers must have thought that the balancing is boring because compared to the other Dragonball games, the boss is pretty strong. When we fight Cell Saga, Cell Saga was actually overwhelming. You can have up to 2 support characters. Each characters comes with unique abilities to help Goku on his journey.
Last message from the developer before we ended the interview is a lot of story content has been offered into the game. Experience the whole story that used to rock your childhood from the beginning. Please look foward for this game. Dragonball Z: Kakarot will be out on 2020.
