Ghost of Yōtei has officially reached the end of its planned multiplayer journey, as developer Sucker Punch Productions confirmed that the recently released Legends Raid update will serve as the final major content update for the game’s cooperative mode on PlayStation 5.
In a new interview published through the PlayStation Blog, Lead Designer Darren Bridges shared extensive details about the development of the Ghost of Yōtei Legends Raid, while also revealing that the update concludes the story of the Yōtei Six and effectively closes the chapter on major post-launch support for Legends mode.
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions from the community, especially among longtime fans of Ghost of Tsushima Legends, many of whom hoped Ghost of Yōtei would receive years of ongoing multiplayer content and expansions.
The Raid Was Designed as the Ultimate Multiplayer Challenge

Launched last month, the Ghost of Yōtei Legends Raid acts as the endgame activity for the multiplayer mode, tasking four-player teams with battling the final two supernatural members of the Yōtei Six, The Dragon and Lord Saito.
According to Bridges, the core concept behind the Raid was to create an experience similar to “an escape room where people are trying to kill you.” The development team focused heavily on communication, teamwork, puzzle-solving, and coordinated combat encounters that would push players to work together under pressure.
Unlike traditional multiplayer missions, the Raid was specifically designed around long-form encounters, evolving mechanics, and boss fights that require players to learn patterns and adapt strategies over time. Sucker Punch also wanted every group to naturally develop its own terminology and communication style during gameplay, something the team enjoyed observing through livestreams and player reactions.
Lessons Learned From Ghost of Tsushima Legends

Bridges also reflected on the lessons learned from developing the original Raid experience in Ghost of Tsushima Legends. While the earlier Raid was praised for its challenge and scale, many players found it difficult to complete due to extremely long mission durations.
Some encounters reportedly took up to six hours during early play sessions, making it difficult for many players to commit to full runs with a dedicated team.
For Ghost of Yōtei Legends, Sucker Punch adjusted the pacing to make the experience more accessible while still maintaining a hardcore cooperative challenge. One major improvement allows players to restart directly at boss encounters after clearing earlier sections, preventing teams from having to replay lengthy puzzle segments repeatedly.
The studio also introduced more opportunities for experimentation with builds and team compositions. Gear Stations placed before major encounters allow players to quickly adjust their setups depending on the boss mechanics, encouraging strategic preparation and synergy between different classes.
Unexpected Strategies Became Part of the Experience

One of the more interesting details shared during the interview involved unintended strategies discovered during internal testing.
During The Dragon boss fight, players must avoid tracking bombs that create dangerous zones around teammates. However, the team later discovered that Shinobi characters using invisibility abilities could completely disrupt the mechanic, causing the bombs to stop tracking entirely.
Rather than removing the interaction, Sucker Punch decided to keep it in the game because the mechanic rewarded coordination and creative teamwork.
Bridges explained that the developers wanted the Raid to constantly alternate between moments where the entire group needed perfect coordination and moments where individual players could step up and save the team.
Fans React to the End of Major Support
While the Raid itself has been praised for its intense cooperative gameplay, the confirmation that it represents the final major planned update for Legends mode has disappointed part of the community.
Many fans expressed concerns in the PlayStation Blog comments section, with some hoping for additional maps, new multiplayer modes, expanded gear progression, or the return of Rivals mode from Ghost of Tsushima Legends.
Others were surprised by how quickly support appears to be winding down, especially considering the popularity of the original Legends multiplayer experience.
Despite the mixed reception surrounding the announcement, Sucker Punch stated that the team is proud of what was accomplished with Ghost of Yōtei Legends and grateful for the community that continued playing and supporting the mode since launch.
Ghost of Yōtei is available now exclusively for PlayStation 5.
