A new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A has revealed a surprise Mega Evolution for the fan-favorite Lucario. Called Mega Lucario Z, it introduces a second Mega Evolution path for a Pokémon that already had one. In addition, the trailer announced a side mission that lets players encounter Mewtwo and Mega Evolve it into its classic forms.
Mega Lucario Z Brings a Fresh Evolution Path
Mega Lucario Z is the first Pokémon in Legends: Z-A to gain a secondary Mega Evolution. It evolves through exposure to a Mega Stone and gains power beyond an average Lucario. Furthermore, the official description highlights its long fur around the head and waist, a fan-shaped tail, and steel-hardened areas on its hands and shins. These features make its close-combat moves powerful and visually disorienting for opponents.

This new form can also perform moves faster than the original Mega Lucario. However, it consumes Mega Power more quickly. As a result, trainers will need to plan their strategies carefully. Meanwhile, fans are already speculating which other Mega Pokémon might receive “Z” variants in the future.
DLC Expands the Mega Evolution Roster
Mega Lucario Z joins other Mega Evolutions in the Mega Dimension DLC, which launches on December 10. The expansion also includes two new Mega Raichu designs and Mega Zeraora, which requires some effort to unlock. Additionally, these new forms create fresh strategies for real-time battles.

The DLC also adds a side mission for Mewtwo. Players can activate it via the game’s Mystery Gift feature. This mission allows trainers to Mega Evolve Mewtwo into Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y, giving them more options for combat.
Sales Context for Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Pokémon Legends: Z-A sold nearly 6 million copies worldwide in its first week. However, data from Newzoo indicates it slightly underperformed compared to Legends: Arceus. This may be because the real-time combat system is a new approach, or players exercised caution after Scarlet and Violet’s launch.

Nevertheless, Z-A still ranks as the fifth best-selling Pokémon game in its first week. In fact, it outsold Pokémon X/Y and Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee, though it sold fewer copies than Scarlet/Violet, Legends: Arceus, and Sword/Shield. Furthermore, around half of the sales came from Switch 2 users.
Looking Ahead
With Mega Lucario Z, new Raichu forms, Mega Zeraora, and the Mewtwo side mission, the Mega Dimension DLC adds exciting content. As a result, players can explore new strategies in real-time battles.

Additionally, the December 10 launch gives trainers even more reasons to return to Pokémon Legends: Z-A and try out all the new evolutions. For more updates on the game, follow their official X account.
