The Busan Indie Connect Festival (BIC) 2025 officially kicked off with its opening ceremony, marking the 11th year of South Korea’s premier indie gaming event. This year’s festival theme “Match Your Indie Spirit” represents the connection between indie game creators and players coming together in one place. This year’s festival has achieved its biggest turnout yet, featuring 592 game submissions from 41 countries around the world. Of these entries, 283 indie games are being displayed at the event, making it the largest showcase in BIC’s history.
The festival’s main visual features a puzzle board design that represents the indie gaming universe. Spaceship-shaped puzzle pieces landing on the board symbolize the moment when developers and gamers connect with each other. The design shows BIC’s goal to be more than just a game showcase – it aims to be a starting point where different indie creators can meet and work together.

The ceremony brought together important figures from South Korea’s gaming industry and local government. Key attendees included Chairman Tae-gun Seo from the Gaming Rating Administration Committee, Busan Metropolitan Council member Seung-woo Lee, and representatives from major gaming companies like Pearl Abyss and Smilegate.
Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon appeared in a special video message, calling BIC “a point of pride for Busan, the city of game industry.” He noted that the festival has become a platform that “inspires and energizes the global gaming ecosystem” and helps create new partnerships between creators.

Chairman Tae-gun Seo praised indie games for their “pure creativity and experimental spirit” during his speech. He described BIC as more than just an exhibition, calling it “a platform where indie creators and players from all around the world can connect and explore new possibilities.” Seung-woo Lee from the Busan Metropolitan Council compared the city’s role in gaming to its history as a major port, saying Busan now connects to the world through games instead of just ships. He promised continued government support for the festival and the indie gaming community.

As part of the ceremony, attendees participated in placing puzzle pieces on the key visual wall, bringing the festival’s theme to life through a hands-on activity that represented the connections being made at the event.
