Konami has officially confirmed that the Suikoden II anime will premiere in 2026. This marks the company’s first full anime project under its new production banner, Konami Animation.

A Classic JRPG Comes to Life

Released in 1998 for the PlayStation 1, Suikoden II is one of the most beloved JRPGs of its generation. The anime will adapt the story faithfully. It follows Riou and Jowy, two childhood friends forced onto opposite sides of a brutal war.

Set after a failed peace treaty between the Highland Kingdom and the City-States of Jowston, the story explores betrayal, loyalty, and survival. The pair, once part of the Unicorn Youth Brigade, soon find themselves caught in conflict and conspiracy.

Konami Animation’s First Anime Series

Suikoden II: The Anime is the first official production from Konami Animation. Yuuzou Satou (known for Hunter × Hunter: The Last Mission) will serve as director. Ryo Hino from NBC Universal Entertainment Japan is on board as producer and project manager.

While many details remain under wraps, multiple seasons have already been teased. This hints at a long-form anime that could explore all 108 Stars of Destiny.

Why Suikoden, and Why Now?

This announcement follows the recent remaster release of Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, which launched on March 6, 2025. It is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.

The remaster reignited interest in the Suikoden franchise. As a result, Konami likely saw the anime adaptation as the perfect next step to attract both fans and newcomers.
