Kaiju No. 8, the popular sci-fi action manga by Naoya Matsumoto, has officially concluded its serialization. After five thrilling years, the final chapter has been published, marking the end of an era for fans of the monster-slaying epic.

But the kaiju-hunting action isn’t over just yet, as Season 2 of the anime is set to air on July 19, 2025, keeping the energy alive for both new and longtime fans.

A Modern Shonen Hit That Broke Records

Kaiju No. 8 first debuted in July 2020 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital platform. The story follows Kafka Hibino, a middle-aged man working on the cleanup crew after deadly kaiju attacks, who suddenly gains the power to transform into a kaiju himself. With his new abilities, Kafka sets out to finally join the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force and fulfill his long-standing dream.

The manga quickly became a sensation thanks to its mix of heart, humor, and high-octane monster battles. Over its five-year run, it has sold more than 18 million copies worldwide and received major critical acclaim.

Among its accolades, Kaiju No. 8 won the 2021 Tokyo New Manga Award, the 7th Next Manga Award for Best Web Manga, and was even nominated for the Eisner Award in 2021—one of the highest honors in the comic industry. The series currently has 15 volumes, with the 16th and final volume scheduled to launch in September 2025.
