Kazuma Kaneko, the famous artist behind designs in the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona games, recently shared his thoughts on what he has in common with Hirohiko Araki, the creator of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. In a recent interview with Animate Times, Kaneko talked about how both artists draw from similar sources of inspiration.
Kaneko, who’s known as the “Demon Artist” for his work at Atlus, said that he and Araki share a deep love of high fashion. “I’ve been interested in fashion ever since I became sexually aware,” Kaneko explained. He pointed out that people often compare the Persona series to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure because both feature characters who fight using supernatural guardian spirits – Personas in his games and Stands in Araki’s manga.

But Kaneko made it clear that any similarities between their art styles aren’t because one copied the other. Instead, it’s because they both love fashion collections and designer clothes, which naturally shows up in their work. “What we have in common is that we both love fashion collections. Since we’re both into clothes and designer pieces, that influence naturally shows up in our work,” he said.
Both artists have even been inspired by the same people without knowing it. Kaneko mentioned that he once talked with Araki and they both got excited about how beautiful US supermodel Trish Goff is. Before talking about Araki, Kaneko also mentioned some of his early influences, including Kamen Rider and manga creator Go Nagai, who made Devilman. These inspirations helped shape his unique style that has become iconic in the gaming world.
