During our time at Computex 2024, we got to check out the ZOTAC GAMING ZONE, a new handheld gaming device on the block to rival other handheld PCs.

This device is at the forefront of ZOTAC’s presence at this year’s Computex, the ZOTAC GAMING ZONE designed for portable gaming similar to the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, or MSI Claw.

In terms of specifications, the ZOTAC GAMING ZONE is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U APU, which includes a Radeon 780M integrated graphics chip, as well as 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a 512GB M.2 NVMe Gen 4 SSD, and a 48.5WH battery. 

One of its standout characteristics is its beautiful 7-inch AMOLED display, which boasts a 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, with a peak brightness of up to 800 nits. The device also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, with additional storage expansion available via a UHS-II MicroSD card.

The device’s design reminds us of the ASUS ROG Ally, with a slightly thicker body but still boasts an ergonomic design to ensure comfortable grips. It is a well-balanced device with a reasonable height and well-arranged buttons, while its quick volume knob at the bottom allows for fast and convenient adjustments.

Meanwhile, the top of the GAMING ZONE houses the cooling vents, a USB-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a power button, and volume controls. Accompanied by the traditional D-Pad, dual analog sticks, ABXY buttons, and the four shoulder buttons, are the touchpads on the left and right side of the front panel for touch controls. Additionally, the back of the device also includes a pair of customizable shortcut buttons for your gaming macros.

All in all, Zotac’s venture into the handheld gaming market is a welcome one as competition breeds improvements and innovations.
