Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia and Square Enix Asia were kind enough to send us a copy of this classified material consisting of a soundtrack, art book, and most notable of all, the Play Arts Kai Figure of Zack Fair. Let’s take a look:

The exterior of the Hero edition is a simple minimalistic black box featuring the game’s logo. Not much to say but it does create a nice atmosphere, building anticipation for the content inside.

Inside the box, we’re met with three packages, a standard copy of the game, the figure (which we’ll get to), and a file of documents seemingly from the Shinra Electric Company with a clear sign that they are not be removed. We decided to remove them anyway.

These classified documents consist of a hardback artbook that features renders, and concept art.

There is also a script book that contains every line in the game as well as even some storyboards used for the cutscenes, as well as a CD containing the official soundtrack by Takeharu Ishimoto. I can safely say that it is definitely worth a listen.

Finally, we have an in-universe item as well, a letter written from Aerith to Zack. It’s in Japanese but you’ll be able to read it in English when you see it in the official game. If you aren’t aware of the context surrounding this letter, let’s just say you’re in for some feels.

Play Arts Kai Zack Figure

This leads up to the living legacy of the Hero Edition, the Play Arts Kai Zack Fair figure, complete with its own both to house and display it:

Zack is depicted in his 2nd Class SOLDIER uniform meaning that he has his original sword before he obtains The Buster Sword. He stands at the following size: L 10.87″ x W 3.82″ x D 2.17″. Here are some more pictures of Zack in various poses so you can see all his good sides.

In terms of accessories, Zack comes with seven alternate hands and two swords, one that he can hold his hands and another that can be attached to his back.

Square Enix Play Arts Series is known for being a bit on the pricey side but the expenses are in the display as this is one of the most articulate and highly detailed figures I’ve ever held. It really feels like Zack jumped off the screen and is now on my desk.

Overall, if you’re a fan of Crisis Core and Zack Fair as a whole, you may wanna check this out for the full experience of FFVII’s beloved prequel.
