Ubisoft is planning to shut down its Finland-based studio RedLynx, the developer behind the Trials series, and downsize Ubisoft Singapore. According to VGC, the publisher has been reviewing its studios to see how well each one is prepared for the future, based on its current projects and long-term sustainability.
It is understood that after assessing RedLynx, Ubisoft decided the studio is not currently working on a new project and that making it smaller would not keep it sustainable. The publisher will therefore propose closing the studio, which would affect around 52 staff. The proposal is subject to change negotiations, which are mandatory discussions between employers and employees in Finland.
In 2020, RedLynx worked with Massive Entertainment to bring The Division 2 to Google Stadia. It later worked on the mobile game Gwen’s Getaway, which soft launched in 2023 and was shut down in December 2024, and it recently supported Massive Entertainment with the Switch 2 port of Star Wars Outlaws. In October last year, Ubisoft announced it was laying off up to 60 staff at RedLynx as part of a restructuring proposal. The plan would have moved the studio from a multi-format developer to one focused on small screens, meaning mobile games, and the studio was said to be leading development on two unannounced mobile titles at the time.

At Ubisoft Singapore, the publisher plans to restructure and downsize the studio after considering its future role and the part it will play in upcoming work. The change is meant to make the studio more sustainable and will result in 70 layoffs.
Calvin Seah, a level designer at Ubisoft Singapore, shared on LinkedIn that he has been told he will be laid off after six years at the studio. He said he worked on three major titles, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Mirage and Valhalla: Siege of Paris, and described the six years as ones he will treasure forever. Seah listed experience in quest and level design, visual and code scripting, mentoring and more than 15 years of writing, and said he is open to relocating overseas for new opportunities.

With the RedLynx proposal heading into change negotiations in Finland and Ubisoft Singapore moving ahead with its downsizing, the company is continuing to reshape its studios around what it sees as sustainable for the future.
