Square Enix has announced a collaboration with Tokyo Broadcasting System Television (TBS) to develop a completely new original intellectual property game targeting both domestic and international markets.
The partnership brings together Square Enix’s renowned game development expertise with TBS Television’s content creation capabilities. This alliance aligns with TBS’s “EDGE (Expand Digital Global Experience)” strategy and their brand promise of “From each moment, a better tomorrow,” which has guided the company’s push into digital content and global brand expansion.

TBS established its gaming division, TBS Games, in July 2023 specifically to focus on creating new intellectual properties originating from games. This collaboration with Square Enix represents a significant step in that direction. The announcement comes as Square Enix implements its medium-term business plan focusing on “quality over quantity” and multi-platform releases. The company recently stated that after completing its three-year reboot plan in March 2027, it expects to consistently release “major titles mainly in key IP.”

While specific details about the game remain undisclosed, both companies have expressed that the project will leverage their respective strengths and experiences. For Square Enix, known for blockbuster franchises like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, this partnership represents another avenue to develop original IP, which has been emphasized in their new business strategy.
The collaboration also follows Square Enix’s recent efforts to enhance productivity by “optimizing the development footprint,” which included cancelling several projects deemed “incompatible” with their new direction.
