It seems like Resident Evil isn’t done exploring Umbrella co-founder Oswell E. Spencer. In a recent interview at Meadowlark Comic Con, Resident Evil Requiem writer Haris Orkin hinted that the much-anticipated story expansion will further explore the calculating mastermind’s history.

“We have an arc for Spencer in Requiem; you kind of understand that more. And then in the DLC you will understand it even further,” Orkin said, before adding: “I probably shouldn’t say that, but yeah.”

The comments offer the first significant hint about the expansion’s story since Capcom confirmed additional content earlier this year. Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi previously said the team was developing extra story content that would “delve deeper into the world of Requiem”, although he did not reveal its focus or release date.

Spencer plays a major role in Requiem, and the series, in general, with the ninth installment exploring his motivations and regrets later in life. The main story also reveals new details about his connection to protagonist Grace Ashcroft, giving the character a more prominent place in the game’s narrative.

Orkin’s comments suggest the DLC could expand on those revelations, although they do not confirm when the expansion takes place, or who the players will be controlling from the two protagonists. So far, Resident Evil Requiem has only added one DLC since launch, which was Leon Must Die Forever. The mode was more of an extra mini-game with roguelike elements, and didn’t build upon the story of Requiem.

Capcom has yet to announce a release date, gameplay details, or the full scope of the DLC. For now, Orkin’s apparent slip gives Resident Evil fans their clearest indication yet that Spencer’s story will continue to play a role in Requiem.
