As Capcom celebrates Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary, the company is saying that the franchise’s remakes will eventually cross over with the numbered entries. Resident Evil producer Jun Takeuchi spoke about the plans in the special magazine that celebrates the franchise’s 30-year longevity, stating that currently, the series features a “two-prong approach.”

“Eventually, the remake series will catch up to the era of the numbered titles, and the mechanisms for that are already being considered.:

Takeuchi added that preparations for the eventual catch-up have been underway since Resident Evil Village, wherein Umbrella and Spencer have been mentioned. He also cited the reappearance of Raccoon City in this year’s RE Requiem as an example. “This is all in preparation for a crossover,” the producer added.

How the remakes would catch up hasn’t been elaborated on by Jun Takeuchi. However, the revelation of having the two timelines eventually meet led fans to speculate that Resident Evil 5 and 6 remakes are coming.

There have been some doubts that these two games would be remade due to how divisive they were, veering away from horror in place of action. For now, fans of the series would have to wait a bit longer, as the studio is currently working on the Code Veronica Remake. 

Furthermore, rumors of the studio remaking Resident Evil 0 may mean that remakes for 5 and 6 will be a bit further down the line. If Capcom’s plan is to release a new RE game annually through remakes and mainline entries, however, the crossover between the two “prongs” appears to be unraveling more quickly than fans think.
