As the Nintendo Switch is making a comeback with the upcoming console Nintendo Switch 2, Team Cherry’s beloved dark fantasy Metroidvania game, Hollow Knight, also returns to lighten up the new Switch with the long awaited sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong.
After six years of almost no major updates of a sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced during Nintendo Direct stating that the game will release in 2025. The sequel has been rumored to be revealed a week before Nintendo Direct but was staved off in order to make a more worthwhile impression during the hour long event.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has been one of the most wishlisted games on Steam since it had been announced back in 2019 returning as a full length sequel instead of downloadable content similar to games such as Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course or Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
The developers at Team Cherry had intended early on for the main character Hornet to explore new lands, and as further development commenced, the game began to expand largely to just be a simple DLC. Though the process may extend longer, they hold onto the fact that the new worlds the developers create for this character to explore will be worth the wait.
Hollow Knight was released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam. As the sequel is making its return on Nintendo Switch, there may also be reason to believe Hollow Knight: Silksong will launch on more consoles like the PlayStation 5 and more.
