Square Enix and developer TOSE just dropped a boatload of new info regarding Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, detailing its online multiplayer features, offline Battle Arena, and a new roguelike mode called Wrangler’s Gauntlet. The news comes ahead of the game’s launch on December 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Online features, including Online Joint Battles, unlock after players progress through the story. These modes support cross-platform play, allowing players on different gaming systems to team up against powerful monsters, with daily quests and special events offering rewards, including monster eggs that can hatch into new party members.
Other online features include Ranked Matches and Private Matches. Ranked Matches feature seven tiers, ranging from Beginner to Legendary, with victories earning points that determine players’ standings at the end of each season. Private Matches, meanwhile, allow players to customise battle rules.

The Battle Arena also offers regular battles and joint battles for players who prefer offline challenges. Both modes feature seven difficulty categories, from G to A. In regular arena battles, players must win all three matches in a category, with their monsters’ HP and MP fully restored between matches. Completing a category offers rewards.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World also introduces a separate roguelike mode, Wrangler’s Gauntlet, which unlocks later in the story. Players receive a changing selection of monsters and must build a party capable of winning 50 consecutive battles.

After each victory, they can strengthen their team through monster synthesis, combining their available monsters with those of their previous opponents. They can also spend Wrangler Points earned from victories on items at the Gauntlet Goods shop. However, monsters and items obtained in this mode cannot be taken into the main adventure.
