Aether Gazer redesigns Osiris twice due to “penis” resemblance

Osiris, a new character who was recently released in Chinese mobile game Aether Gazer, was redesigned due to her model containing a “penis”. To be exact, it has nothing to do with her gender or sex, but it was due to her outfit which bore the resemblance.

Netizens on Chinese social media platforms were even going as far as describing the character as “big black c**k”. Have a look at Osiris’s initial in-game model below:

Weirdly enough, her illustration in the game doesn’t possess such a defining feature.

To rectify this, the developers silently patched the character, making the “problematic” part of the cloth translucent. However, the opposite effect was achieved, as Aether Gazer players found out that rotating the in-game model for Osiris from side to side makes the penis resemblance even more striking.

Ultimately, Osiris was redesigned once more, this time with the cloth having flat edges.

While it’s obvious that such a resemblance to the male phallus is more than likely unintentional, it makes sense why the developers would want to redesign the character, given China’s stance on such matters. From effeminate imagery to oversexualised characters, developers have to be careful not to incite the wrath of the government.
