Hololive Summer 2022 – How Hololive Brought back an old Tradition

The summer time is here and it’s the prime opportunity to go outside to the beaches and live out your best lives, or you could be like me and stay indoors and be hyped about the return of the Hololive Summer 2022 event.

Hololive Summer 2022 had just been recently announced to make a comeback after 3 years, with the last event being back in 2019. Hololive Fans outside of Japan might not have known about the famous event since it happened before the surge of popularity in recent years, so here’s a little backstory to keep you up to date as to why both fans and the talents are looking forward to it.

About Hololive Summer

The Hololive Summer event started off back in 2019 where most of the Hololive JP talents had gotten a swimsuit variant for their 3D models. The talents would then have a dedicated stream to show off their swimsuits while doing activities to entertain the stream.

Although, most of the summer streams with the swimsuit debut have either been deleted or privated. The purge of the summer streams was most likely due to the introduction of early demonetisation on Youtube, which caused the summer event to not be present in both the year of 2020 and 2021.

Despite not being an actual tradition in Hololive, both fans and talents have highly anticipated and wish to have the event back ever since then with them often mentioning the summer streams which makes it feel like a reoccurring event.

Hololive Summer 2022

Fortunately for us, Hololive Summer is now back and better than ever, and it seems like Hololive Productions is going all out for this year’s event, even to the point of creating an official website for it. Being teased in the trailer PV, there seems to be an overarching story that ties with Hololive Summer 2022.  And so the story goes:

The three artifacts required to bring back hololive Summer have been stolen, and even hololive’s leader YAGOO has gone missing.

Upon realizing this, staff member Friend A (A-chan) gathers the hololive members, and sets off on a mission to find the three artifacts, rescue YAGOO, and ensure hololive Summer can happen this year.

The long-awaited return of hololive Summer.. But will that dream be quashed once more this year? Will the joy of the season be stolen again? This summer… the girl’s quest begins.

Along with an overview of the story, they also mentioned various of “story items” which will play an important role in saving the event. We have the 3 artifact crystals are prepared by hololive’s staff for the hololive Summer event. They are crafted from special materials that respond only to hololive members, and contain condensed 3D hologram technology. These crystals are absolutely essential to making hololive Summer 2022 happen.

We were also given the name of each of the artifacts and their respective meaning behind each of the artifacts, which coincidentally also spell out a certain famous song in Hololive.

• The Crystal of Shine: Said to represent radiance. It is as blue as the clear blue skies of summer.
• The Crystal of Smiles: Said to mysteriously fill those who look upon it with energy. It glitters as yellow as a summer sunflower.
• The Crystal of Stories: Said to contain the history and experiences of hololive. It burns as fiery red as the summer sun.

Sound familiar? Well, my prediction is that after the usual shenanigans that our favourite Hololive members will go through, and once all the artifacts are recovered, they will showcase the swimsuit versions of hopefully all of the JP talents whilst performing Shiny Smiley Story, paying homage to the previous Hololive Summer 2019.

But once again, this is just my current head cannon on how the events that lead up to the reveal will play out. The website has also mentioned that there will be more videos about Hololive Summer in the upcoming few days, so it’s worth keeping an eye on them for more potential info.

Either way, I’m just personally happy that we’ll get to experience the joy of summer with our favourite girls, and YAGOO of course.
