Geoff Keighley once again took centre stage at this year’s gamescom opening night in Cologne. The show spanned roughly two hours, featuring dozens of game reveals, trailers, gameplay footage, and release dates.
You’ve already heard of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s new expansion and its free remaster, the new Mega Man game, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation, so let’s get you up to speed with the other hard-hitting reveals of the night.
A Sneak Peek into Metro 2039’s Story and Atmosphere

Metro 2039 showcased a two-minute trailer that briefly showed the barren yet atmospheric post-apocalyptic Moscow as well as its new mutated inhabitants. The story for the new character, simply known as “The Stranger,” was also revealed, depicting him as someone with a complicated past and little interest in becoming a saviour.
Lastly, we saw claustrophobic underground tunnels, deteriorating stations, and the series’ signature tight combat. The game is set to release in February 2027.
Gears of War: E-Day Looks to Make an Explosive Return
Gears of War: E-Day takes place in the titular “Emergence Day”, where the Locust Horde first surfaced from the underground to attack the planet of Sera. A preview of the game was available in their booth, showing its revamped visuals, cover and shooting mechanics, and an all-new jump button. E-Day is nearing its release day on October 6, 2026.
Meet the Cast of Silent Hill: Townfall
A new SILENT HILL: Townfall trailer was revealed at gamescom Opening Night Live.

Konami also introduced players to the talented voice cast of Silent Hill: Townfall, responsible for the lifelike portrayal of the game’s characters. The series’ debut in first-person horror is being developed by No Code, the studio behind Stories Untold and Observation. Townfall is shaping up to be another unsettling entry in the Silent Hill universe. The game launches on September 24, 2026.
Exodus Finally Gets a Release Date

Exodus also appeared to introduce Salt, a talking octopus who pilots a mech suit and joins protagonist Jun Aslan on the space adventure. Developed by Archetype Entertainment, the game offers cinematic storytelling, companions, exploration, and player choice in a Mass Effect-deprived gaming industry. The trailer finally confirmed that Exodus will launch on April 7, 2027.
Eight-Minute Gameplay of Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons
Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons provided a generous look into its world set in the universe of the famous tabletop role-playing game. The eight-minute footage demonstrated third-person gameplay, showing the use of forbidden magic in both combat and world navigation. Wizards of the Coast and Invoke Studios are targeting a 2027 release for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rainbow Six Goes Turn-Based
One of the most surprising reveals of the opening night was Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics, which breaks away from the first-person shooter formula in place of a single-player turn-based strategy game. Not much has been shared regarding its story, but the premise sets up a large conspiracy that unravels through the Rainbow operator’s high-risk missions. Players can now wishlist the game, with the scheduled release being in 2027.
A Game of Thrones Strategy Game
An adventure to Westeros awaits gamers in the newly revealed Game of Thrones strategy game. Game of Thrones War for Westeros previewed a glimpse of its epic battles, series’ returning characters, and the factions that players can command. The game is currently planned for release in 2027.
Showa American Story New Gameplay
Showa American Story could easily be considered the show-stealer, with its unique and alluring retro pop aesthetic and over-the-top action. The trailer showed the main character, Choko, a young woman brought back to life, exploring Japanese-influenced America during the Showa era.
Various activities were briefly shown as well, including playing arcade machines, repairing bikes, and playing hopscotch. These somewhat mundane tasks were followed by the brutal swordplay against both human enemies and zombies.

The showcase also brought updates on several other titles. For instance, Mewgenics is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on September 8, while Rayman Legends Retold launches October 1.
