The global version of Umamusume: Pretty Derby is showing no signs of slowing down. Since its launch, the game has continued to build momentum, and now it’s smashed its previous record on Steam, reaching a new all-time peak of over 87,000 concurrent players.
This new milestone nearly doubles its previous peak of 47,000, placing it among the Top 10 most-played games on Steam.
What’s Behind the Sudden Surge?
The sharp spike in player count comes shortly after Cygames released the first major content update for the global version. The update introduces the new story event “Brand New Friends” and limited banners featuring fan-favorite characters Tokai Teio and Mejiro McQueen.
In addition to the new characters, players are also chasing highly sought-after Support Cards:
- SSR [Fire at My Heels] Kitasan Black
- SSR [The Will to Overtake] Satono Diamond
These powerful additions have made the latest update one of the most exciting content drops since the game’s global launch.
The game’s reception is equally impressive, boasting a 94% “Very Positive” user rating from over 14,000 Steam reviews. Rather than riding on initial hype, Umamusume continues to prove its staying power with consistent updates and fan engagement.
There is also a new update to the Steam Deck that allows anti-cheat games to be playable now, and one of them is Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
What Is Umamusume: Pretty Derby?
For newcomers, Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a horse racing simulation game featuring a cast of anthropomorphic anime girls known as “Horse Girls,” each inspired by real-life racehorses. This unique moe-fication concept has become a massive hit, spawning one of Cygames’ most successful multimedia franchises, from mobile games and anime to live concerts and merchandise.
The mobile version continues to dominate in Japan, backed by a dedicated fanbase and strong revenue performance.
The global version of Umamusume: Pretty Derby is now available on Android, iOS, and PC via Steam.
