Microsoft just revealed its smallest Xbox controller to date, taking the familiar control layout of the console and shrinking it to just over five inches. The Xbox Nano Controller is a compact wireless gamepad designed for younger players, people with smaller hands, or those who simply want a more portable way to play.
Announced on 14 October, the Xbox Nano Controller is priced at $49.99 in the US, with pre-orders now open. Microsoft plans to release the controller in November across multiple markets, including the US, UK, Australia and Japan. Additional markets are expected to follow after the initial November rollout.
Despite its compact form, the Xbox Nano Controller includes all 18 standard gameplay inputs found in the iconic Xbox layout. Aside from being small, it’s incredibly light as well, weighing just 3.5 ounces, which is less than most modern smartphones.

The controller also features an internal rechargeable battery, which is a huge upgrade from the standard Xbox Series X|S controllers, which still require disposable AA batteries. There’s also a programmable Action Button that lets players customise shortcuts for functions such as taking screenshots and capturing gameplay.
For connectivity, the device supports Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth, allowing it to connect to compatible Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, mobile devices, and select smart TVs. Microsoft highlighted games such as Minecraft Dungeons II and Forza Horizon 6 to demonstrate how the controller could support gaming at home or on the go.

Microsoft is also partnering with Samsung and Meta on limited US holiday offers. Eligible customers purchasing select Samsung TVs or Meta Quest devices can receive the controller alongside two months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for new subscribers.
