Scott Pilgrim Creator Explains Lack of Game Re-Release

Bryan Lee O’Malley, best known for being behind cult-classic comic Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, lamented today the lack of a current-gen port of the Scott Pilgrim Game.

The creator has been vocal about his interest in re-releasing Scott Pilgrim Vs The World the game, given this year marks the 10th anniversary of both the movie and game.

There could be plenty of reasons for the game to not receive a re-release. For one, the game contains music by Anamanaguchi, and the game could have run into licensing issues.

However, Anamanaguchi confirmed via their twitter account that they would be on board for a re-release of the game.

According to Bryan Lee O’Malley, the main obstacle preventing the game’s re-release has been a lack of interest from the game’s publisher, Ubisoft.

The Release The Fans Could Have Had

Bryan Lee O’Malley also explained his plans for a hypothetical re-release.

“Also for years now i’ve been talking to @iam8bit about what a cool physical edition we could do if this game ever got a rerelease. Jon at @iam8bit & Charlie at @OniPress have been doing legwork trying to make it happen for 4+ years and still silence from @ubisoft “, he wrote. 

iam8bit have been responsible for many unique physical releases. These include the “Lovely Edition” of Untitled Goose Game and the vinyl editions of the Steven Universe soundtrack.

“I keep asking around and  Ubisoft hasn’t contacted me or Tribute Games or Anamanaguchi or anyone who worked on the game in any capacity,” he said, tagging their twitter accounts. “If the Scott Pilgrim game DOES get rereleased and NONE of us are involved, how messed up is that? It’s Messed UP”.

Tribute Games is a studio made up of artists who worked on the original game.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World focuses on the adventures of Scott, who must defeat the evil exes of the girl he likes, Ramona Flowers.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: The Game is a 2d side-scrolling beat-em-up released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. The game featured a soundtrack by Anamanaguchi and had 4 playable characters. Three more characters were added as DLC.

It’s become one of the big mysteries of gaming due to Scott Pilgrim’s passionate fanbase. On top of that, the game was mysteriously delisted in 2014.

With the game, movie, and comic all hitting milestones in 2020 it’s understandable that fans would want a chance to get their hands on the game again. Ubisoft has not released a statement regarding the issue, however.
