ATTRACTIVE DESIGN

One of the first things you’d take notice of the MSI GP65 Leopard 9SE is this black chassis and the series’ classic design. It’s entirely matte black, and the screen bezels are as such it’s more comfortable for players to enjoy the visuals. Gaming laptops are typically quite heavy, but not so for the GP65 which doesn’t reach 2.4kg! This comparatively lighter weight allows players to bring it anywhere with ease. Let’s not forget the various ports like three USB 3.1 ports, one USB 3.1 Type C and HDMI 2.0. The power port is on the right side of the laptop.

LIGHT AND ROBUST

This esports gaming laptop surely packs great specifications and configurations, running Intel Core i7-9750H, 1TB RAM and 256GB SSD and NVIDIA GeForce RT 2060. To match those internals, the laptop also comes with a 144Hz 15.6-inch IPS screen. In addition, the SteelSeries keyboard makes it quite comfortable to type, accentuated by per-key RGB lighting. As with previous series, users can customize the lighting to their needs.

PUTTING IT TO THE TEST WITH GAMES

We can’t call it a gaming laptop without trying out a whole host of games, can we? Monster Hunter World, Overwatch and DOTA 2 get put to the test. Users aren’t gonna be disappointed, with such smooth performance thanks to the RTX 2060.

For Monster Hunter World, it does chug a little with frames dropping in maps with lots of monsters, maintaining a 35-45 FPS. It doesn’t affect the actual gameplay experience though, and you can also see the FPS soar to 150!

Hopping over to Overwatch, the FPS maintains above 65 even on the highest graphical settings. Players would certainly be pleased with such results.

Last but not least, is DOTA 2 stepping up to the plate. It’s not the most demanding game out there for sure, but there’s plenty of effects that can cause machines to falter. At the highest settings, the game runs at 80FPS, so no issues there!

BENCHMARK TESTS

The laptop scores 6,108 points on 3DMark, certainly satisfying those who’re looking for max settings gaming.

The PCMark 10 scores are quite good at 4,824 points, reaching 10,834 for applications and 9,864 for images. It’s not just games you’d be handily using this laptop for: your everyday use will be stellar.

As for the Cinebench R20 test, the processor is capable of 2607 points, which is still satisfactory.

Putting it through the wringer with the Final Fantasy XV benchmarking, at 1080p, the laptop scores 6,725 points. It does start dropping frames if you try 4K, though.

CONCLUSION

As a whole, the dual Dragon Back and Dragon Scale esports gaming laptop in the MSI GP65 Leopard 9SE can handily satisfy players. A 144Hz, 15.6-inch screen and stereo audio provides a complete audio visual package. It’s got plenty of great points, with its one thing lacking in how noisy the fans are. It’s all in the purpose of maximum cooling for the laptop though, so there’ll be no problems from overheating.
