Hideaki Itsuno Departs from Capcom After 30 Years

Hideaki Itsuno, the renowned director behind popular game franchises such as Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, has announced his departure from Capcom after a 30-year tenure. Itsuno, who joined the company in 1994, will be leaving at the end of August 2024.

In a statement to his followers, Itsuno expressed gratitude for the long-term support of the games and characters he has been responsible for during his time at Capcom. He encouraged fans to continue supporting Capcom’s games and characters even after his departure.

Itsuno’s career at Capcom has been marked by an impressive list of directorial credits. His first works as a director included Star Gladiator and Rival Schools: United by Fate. Over the years, he helmed numerous successful titles, including multiple entries in the Devil May Cry series, the Dragon’s Dogma franchise, Power Stone, and various fighting games like Capcom vs SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001.

Throughout his time at Capcom, Itsuno has been instrumental in shaping the action and fighting game genres. His work on the Devil May Cry series, particularly starting with Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening, revitalized the franchise and set new standards for stylish action games. The Dragon’s Dogma series, another of Itsuno’s creations, brought fresh ideas to the open-world RPG genre.

Looking ahead, Itsuno revealed plans to embark on a new chapter in his career. Starting September, he will be developing a new game in a different environment. The veteran game director expressed his ambition to create “fun, beautiful games that are as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the ones I have created so far.”
