After six years of waiting, Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be playable by the public at Gamescom 2025. Microsoft and developer Team Cherry announced that the highly anticipated sequel will be available to try at the Xbox booth during the gaming trade show.
The event will take place in Cologne, Germany from August 20 to 24, 2025. Visitors will be able to play Silksong on both PC and the ROG Xbox Ally X handheld device. This marks the first time regular players can get their hands on the game since it was first announced back in 2019.
Silksong won’t be the only major game at Microsoft’s booth. Other playable titles include Grounded 2 and Ninja Gaiden 4. Additionally, Microsoft will host demos for several third-party games like Borderlands 4, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, EA Sports FC 26, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
The lack of a release date for Silksong has become a running joke in the gaming community. Every time there’s a major gaming event or presentation, fans hope this will be when Team Cherry finally announces when the game will come out.

Earlier this year, Xbox president Sarah Bond seemed to suggest that Silksong would launch alongside the ROG Xbox Ally handheld. However, Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin quickly clarified on the game’s Discord server that the game isn’t tied to any specific console release and is planned to come out before the holiday season, though no exact date has been given.
The game even appeared in Nintendo’s Switch 2 announcement in February, which worried some fans that development had shifted to the newer console. Griffin addressed these concerns on social media, confirming that Silksong will release on both the original Switch and Switch 2.
