Capcom has shared fresh details about the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem through an eight-minute developer diary during their recent Capcom Spotlight. The video featured key members of the development team discussing what fans can expect from the ninth main game in the beloved horror series.
Director Koshi Nakanishi, art director Tomonori Takano, and producers Masachika Kawata and Masato Kumazawa appeared in the Creators’ Message to talk about their vision for the game. They described Resident Evil Requiem as the most immersive entry in the series yet, promising gameplay built around what they call addictive fear.
Meet Grace Ashcroft, the New Protagonist
The team introduced Grace Ashcroft, the game’s main character who works as an FBI intelligence analyst. Unlike previous Resident Evil heroes, Grace is described as introverted and easily frightened, bringing a fresh take to the series. The developers explained that Grace will experience horror from the same viewpoint as players, learning to face her fears as the story unfolds.
Despite being naturally timid, Grace has firearms training and relies on her analytical skills to keep calm when things get dangerous. This combination of vulnerability and competence aims to create a unique character experience for the franchise.

The development team has focused heavily on creating realistic details throughout the game. They mentioned specific examples like showing the redness in Grace’s face when she’s hanging upside down and making her hair move naturally. To achieve this level of detail, they even used a custom-made wig as reference for her hair movements.
Players will have the option to switch freely between first-person and third-person views during gameplay. The first-person mode is designed to deliver up-close, intense horror experiences, while the third-person over-the-shoulder camera allows for more action-focused gameplay.
A Story Set 30 Years Later
Resident Evil Requiem takes place three decades after the U.S. government launched the Sterilization Missile to destroy Raccoon City and stop the t-virus outbreak. The developers described the game as a tribute to the many characters from the original outbreak who either died or were permanently changed by those events.

The timing is significant since March 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, making this game a milestone release for the franchise. Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC through Steam.
