An Interview With Malaysian Streamer Mimi Haney!

We live in a multi-talented country filled with all sorts of people that we are very proud of. Like Syamimi Haney Jaffrymore aka Mimi Haney, our very own Malaysian streamer who’s successful now being a gamer and an ROG Ambassador. It was an honor for us to be able to interview her, to have her share with us her life as a female gamer, streamer and an influencer in the gaming industry.

About Mimi Haney

Mimi Haney (Syamimi Haney Jaffrymore) is a 24 year old female gamer and influencer from Johor Bharu who’s widely popular among Malaysians on YouTube and Twitch. She’s also an ambassador of Asus ROG where we can see her promoting Asus ROG products from time to time. Being an avid gamer and entertainer on popular media platforms like Twitch and YouTube, she is also married to her lovely husband whom she met in the virtual world (isn’t that a gamer’s dream come true!?).

The interview

Intrigued with how she became a gamer and streamer, we asked “How and when did you get involved into the world of gaming?” Mimi Haney played her first game taught by her father who was also an avid gamer back in the year of 2000 when she was only 6 years old. Her first game was Resident Evil: Nemesis. She might’ve been too young to play a horror game at her age back then but it would seem that she was even more in love with gaming since then.

She moved from playing her first console, the PlayStation 1, to the PlayStation 4 and now to PC. It has been her wish to try on all the consoles, even an Xbox, before getting her own PC. Her enthusiasm on games has brought not only joy to her but also an offer to be an ambassador of Asus ROG.

Ever since her decision to begin her career as a streamer and an influencer in the gaming world, she has faced some difficulty in the beginning of her career. Due to the many stereotypical critics in the community, she was criticized just because she’s a female streamer. However, thanks to her growing support from her community of viewers, friends and family with positivity, she has been able to ignore the negativity from certain groups of community. Though, that’s not the only challenge in her career. Being an entertainer, live on stream, takes a lot out of her emotions and mental energy to maintain her facade.

As you might already know, Mimi Haney is already married to a lovely husband! Despite being married, her husband is still very supportive in her growing career in the gaming world. Her husband also supports her as a manager or an adviser whenever there was a job offered to her. As her manager, adviser and husband, he would be the first person she’d discuss with for opinions on the job offers.

Now, we know that her husband supports her gaming career, but what about her parents? Well, her parents are also on the same boat! Supporting her every move venturing in the world of gaming, her parents had never thought gaming in a negative way or is a wasteful activity. She considers herself lucky as her parents also keep themselves updated with the latest games and checks on her if there’s a game on her wishlist. Ever since she was young, her room was setup for her gaming needs like a TV, a console, sound system and cupboard for her game collections. So she hardly plays outside during her childhood (Who would!? It’s a gamer’s haven!).

Being a streamer and influencer has its ups and downs. There will come a time where certain experiences are bitter, sweet or bitter-sweet. Mimi Haney is no stranger to them and she has been and still receiving critics even from her own friends which results in losing them as a friend. However, she has gained more new friends who are nice and even gifts from friends.

If you’re curious as to whether the husband is also a gamer, streamer or an influencer? The answer is, no, he’s not a streamer nor an influencer, but he is an avid gamer who’s loyal towards the PlayStation and PC. Both as husband and wife plays a wide array of genres as they buy new game releases every month to increase their collection of games. Whenever she plays a multiplayer cooperative game, her husband would be her Player 2 (Awe, how sweet!).

But being a full time streamer and influencer, how does one able to take care of the household? Well it is apparently not too difficult as explained by Mimi Haney. As a wife who is flexible with time, the life routine as a wife-streamer is quite balanced. Though there are those who are ready to criticize on the capabilities of a gamer girl as a wife, she rebuts that, as an adult, we are all capable of dividing our time to fulfill the responsibilities needed to fill.

“To be honest, I can’t imagine if I’m married to someone who cannot understand my hobby and work as a gamer and stream.” says Mimi Haney.

Before we end our interview with Mimi Haney, we asked her for some advise to be shared to the other female gamers who aspire to take the same steps as Mimi Haney. In her words, she advises all to work hard and put in the effort needed as every achievement do not come with just a snap of a finger. Everything requires time and as a female gamer, it’s even more challenging as Malaysian netizens are still skeptical to accept that games are for all genders. The people still think that females should only be in the kitchen, but with time, hopefully, the minds of Malaysians can be changed for the better.
