The Open World of Dragon’s Dogma II Will Be Four Times As Large As The First Game Says Hideaki Itsuno

Hideaki Itsuno appeared at the Capcom Showcase 2023 to give new details on the publisher’s upcoming action RPG Dragon’s Dogma II including the larger open world and use of pawns in battle.

Dragon’s Dogma II will make use of the RE Engine (used for recent Resident Evil games, Devil May Cry V, and Street Fighter 6) to create a world that is four times as large as the original game’s map.

According to Istuno, the game will be a single player but you will be assisted by AI allies called Pawns who will fight alongside you in battle. Your party will consist of your player character, The Arisen, one Main Pawn who can be customized to your liking, and Two Support Pawn who can be borrowed from other players. The AI characters will be able to perform more precise decisions than in the previous game and can guide you to new locations.

The game will also feature a more immersive physics engine where pulling on a monster’s leg will cause them to realistically topple over allowing for a wider variety of ways to tackle different situations.

Itsuno also gave more details on two important new characters featured in the key art of the game alongside The Arisen. On the right is Urika, an archer with a deep connection to The Arisen, and on the left Nadinia, a high priestess of the Beastren, a race of people that appear in the series for the first time in Dragon’s Dogma II.

Dragon’s Dogma II will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in the near future.
