In a recent interview with French magazine Le Film Français, legendary game designer Hideo Kojima revealed that his upcoming action espionage title Physint is still “five or six years” away from release. The game, announced in January 2024 during a PlayStation State of Play presentation, represents a return to the stealth action genre that made Kojima famous.
While discussing the ongoing production of the Death Stranding film adaptation by A24, Kojima shared insights about his current projects and future ambitions. “Besides Death Stranding 2, there is Physint in development. That will take me another five or six years,” Kojima stated.

During the initial announcement, Kojima described Physint as a brand-new, original IP and a next-generation action espionage game. The project is being developed in partnership with PlayStation, though few other details have been revealed so far.
Interestingly, Kojima also expressed his longtime desire to direct a film, mentioning he had “received many offers after leaving Konami.” However, he indicated that any filmmaking ventures would likely come after completing his current game projects. “Maybe after that, I could finally decide to tackle a film. I grew up with cinema. Directing would be a kind of homage to it. Besides, I’m getting older, and I would prefer to do it while still young,” he explained.
The interview, conducted as part of ongoing Death Stranding 2 promotion, notably did not mention OD, Kojima’s collaboration with Microsoft. Kojima’s strong connection to cinema has long been evident in his games, which are famous for their cinematic qualities and sometimes feature-length cutscenes. The 60-year-old developer recently shared that he has reassessed his priorities following a serious illness during the pandemic, even preparing a will containing game ideas for his staff to use after his death.
