Fans of the popular looter-shooter franchise have reason to celebrate as 2K and Gearbox Software announced they’re moving up the release date for the highly anticipated Borderlands 4. Originally slated for September 23, the game will now launch on September 12 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is planned to follow in 2025.
The announcement comes alongside confirmation of a dedicated Borderlands 4 PlayStation State of Play broadcast scheduled for today, April 30, at 2:00 p.m. PT / 5:00 p.m. ET. Viewers can tune in via PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels for an extended showcase featuring over 20 minutes of new content.

According to Gearbox, the State of Play presentation will offer an in-depth look at gameplay elements including new weapons, abilities, missions, and characters that players will encounter on the planet Kairos. Senior Project Producer Anthony Nicholson will guide viewers through developer-narrated gameplay footage.
In their social media announcement, the development team expressed enthusiasm about the earlier release: “After careful consideration—along with a LOT of meetings, playtesting, and incredible development work—we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12.”
