PlayStation has quietly removed region locks from several of its biggest PC ports on Steam, making games like Helldivers 2, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, God of War Ragnarok, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 available to purchase in more countries.
Before this change, players in regions without PlayStation Network (PSN) support couldn’t buy these games directly from Steam. While some players found ways around this by creating Steam and PSN accounts in different regions, these restrictions caused frustration for many gamers who wanted to play Sony’s PC titles.

The region locks were tied to Sony’s push for mandatory PSN accounts, which made more sense for online multiplayer games like the now-closed Concord. However, requiring PSN sign-ups for single-player games drew criticism from the PC gaming community.
The controversy reached its peak with Helldivers 2, where player backlash was so strong that Sony reversed course and removed the PSN requirement entirely. The company said it was “learning what’s best for PC players” when making the change. Similar issues arose with God of War Ragnarok’s PC release, where one player even created a mod to remove the PSN requirement. The mod was later taken down by its creator to avoid potential legal issues with Sony.

In January, Sony announced a new approach for its PC games. Instead of forcing players to create PSN accounts, the company now offers in-game rewards and items as incentives for those who choose to sign up voluntarily.
The affected games are now available for purchase on Steam in previously restricted regions, though players may still need to check their local Steam store for availability.
