Just days before the official launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, several major US retailers have begun canceling customer pre-orders, leaving many disappointed gamers scrambling to secure the highly anticipated console. Customers of Walmart, Target, and GameStop have taken to social media in recent days to share their frustration after receiving cancellation notices for their Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. Many of these cancellations came with little to no advance warning.

The reasons given for the cancellations vary by retailer. Some customers were told stores were “out of stock,” while others received notices about payment processing issues – claims that several customers have disputed. One Walmart customer service representative reportedly explained to a customer that their order was canceled “due to a large number of orders.”

Target has acknowledged the problem in a public statement, saying they “identified a small group of customers whose orders were unfortunately affected by a system error.” The retailer emphasized that they understand “how exciting this new product launch is” and are working to help affected customers.

This situation isn’t limited to the US market. Last week, UK retailer GAME also had to cancel some Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, though the company didn’t provide details about how many orders were affected or the specific reasons behind the cancellations. The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch worldwide on June 5. Nintendo has previously stated its commitment to making products “as obtainable as we possibly can” despite ongoing market challenges related to US tariffs.
