An exploit in Guilty Gear Strive has resurfaced using the game’s R Code system, causing plenty of grief for its top streamers.

Shorthanded to the R Code Exploit, it basically allows hackers to access your Guilty Gear Strive R Code- the game’s method of storing user data, allowing them to change players names, type in the chat as them, and crash their games.
Since it doesn’t even require you to play against the malicious player, it’s extremely dangerous for streamers- all you need to do is follow them via the game’s networking features to be able to make the game unplayable.
Worse still, former EVO champion Hotashi has also reported that the exploit can be used to cause a memory leak- slowing down the game’s overall performance.
In his video explaining the phenomenon, he says that the only solution as of now is to boot the game in offline mode, and creating an alt to play the game online, off-stream.
However that’s not particularly conducive for either content creators or even netplay tournament organizers, who risk losing valuable stream time to the crashes.
“In the mean time, I don’t know what people are supposed to do”, says Stephen “Sajam” Lyon, in his video on the topic. “Arc World Tour event starts in March, and the last qualifier is Frosty Faustings, which is the end of the month”.
It should be noted that a similar exploit was previously patched out in July- which means that since then, a new vulnerability has since appeared.
Arc System Works has not released an official statement on the matter, and we’ve reached out to them for comment.
