Bandai Namco and developer Media.Vision have shared a nine-minute gameplay deep dive for their upcoming RPG Digimon Story: Time Stranger, featuring producer Ryosuke Hara. The showcase was part of Bandai Namco Summer Showcase 2025.
The game combines RPG and monster-taming elements, focusing on the relationship between humans and Digimon in a story about preventing the world’s collapse. Players will travel between the human world and the Digital World, collecting and training different Digimon for turn-based battles.
The game takes place in Tokyo, Japan, where a secret organization agent meets a mysterious creature before a massive explosion destroys the city. The agent then wakes up eight years in the past and must work to solve the mystery of what caused the world to collapse. The story involves meeting various characters while traveling through time and parallel worlds to change the future.
Players can explore two different worlds – the regular human world and the Digital World called Iliad, where Digimon live. The Digital World includes detailed environments with interactive elements and special side quests to discover.

Combat uses a turn-based system that mixes strategy with updated battle mechanics. The game features more than 450 different Digimon, along with deep customization options that give players many ways to approach battles and strengthen their bonds with their Digimon partners.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger will launch on October 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. The game promises to show the Digital World in more detail than previous entries in the series, with a focus on the connections between humans and their Digimon companions.
