Lately, you may or may not have come across TCG Card Shop Simulator, a game that lets you live a life running a business that deals with the trading cards hobby. I am here to let you know that this trending game that was just released on Steam’s Early Access mid-September was made by a Malaysian developer, OPNeon Games which had developed games for the mobile market for seven years previously. Entering 2024, they made the shift to the PC market due to concerns of overwhelming numbers of ads and microtransactions.
On an added note, the game underwent a development period of six months, with the developer doing the bulk of the programming while freelance artists were commissioned for the design of the in-game card designs. Moreover, the game was also developed with the Unity engine, utilising their assets as shared by the developer. As a bonus, the Malaysian developer even made sure to include MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) as a viable currency to use in-game and it was “a nod to my home country” as stated by them. All of this info were first revealed through a reddit post posted by the developer themselves.
I’m a game developer from Selangor who created TCG Card Shop Simulator on Steam. As a nod to my home country, I added Ringgit Malaysia as one of the currencies in the game!

As for crowd reception, the simulation game currently has been the subject of praise for a lot of gamers, netting a score of 93.33% positive reviews via SteamDB ratings and a 96% overwhelmingly positive score via the official store page on Steam. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that the player count started at around 5000 when it first released on Early Access and by the end of September, it had amassed at an all-time high of roughly 39,000 players. As of writing today, that count is comfortably sitting at 26,000.
The game is continuing to gain a lot of attention, with notable internet personalities like xQc and vtubers such as hololive’s holoID member, Kureiji Ollie who they themselves made a livestream of their time playing the game. It is also worth noting that it seems like the developer is looking into continuing to add more stuff into the game such as a playable TCG within the game so we can look forward to that.
So, if you are a fan of simulation games like the widely popular Supermarket Simulator which was a phenomenon from this year or you just wanna take a glimpse of what it’s like to own a TCG card shop, do check out TCG Card Shop Simulator through their official Steam page and you may find yourself a budding new addiction in the virtually-simulated trading card business.
