SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered Now Out on Nintendo Switch, PS4/5, PC and Mobile

SQUARE ENIX’s enhanced 1999 classic, SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered, is now available digitally. In Southeast Asian regions, both physical and digital copies are offered for the Nintendo Switch, while other platforms, including PS5, PS4, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android are digital-only.

RPG fanatics can now experience the intertwined tales of a royal heir and a rookie adventurer along with advanced high definition visuals, revamped UI, enhanced systems and new in-game content.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered’s features include the following:

Enhanced HD Visuals

SaGa Frontier 2’s signature warm-colored watercolor graphics and have become more defined and vibrant as all original character pixel sprites have also been upscaled to fit modern graphic resolutions. New sprites are also prepared for characters who did not have unique sprites in the original version of the game.

Revamped UI

Screen layouts have been revamped as well as other changes made to ensure comfortable and easy gameplay. In comparison with the original and its remaster, the remaster has more space between characters on-screen and the UI to make the experience more breathable than it appearing all cluttered.

Among other changes includes features like History choice, which allows players to choose which event they can play at any time and play through the perspective of various characters.

New Story Content

With careful supervision from the SaGa franchise’s General Director, Akitoshi Kawazu, new story events have been introduced and written by the novelist who wrote the light novel Final Fantasy VII: The Maiden Who Travels The Planet, Benny Matsuyama.

Two of the events were written for the two characters Gustave and William Knights, with their respective stories 1251 Gustave Arc: ‘The Joining of Kelvin and Marie’ and 1260 Knights Arc: ‘Labelle’s Wish.’ These events were created to provide deeper insight into the events that were unfolded during SaGa Frontier 2.

There will be additional events added further on into the game that will unlock more stories that will unlock hidden truths for the first time.

New Gameplay Features

Newly added features such as Parameter Inheritance which allows levelled up characters to inherit their stats onto other characters, postgame content that will unlock new events and more enhanced bosses and a New Game+ feature allowing the player to start a new game with elements used in previous playthroughs.

These features aim to help the player in a more expansive gameplay experience with ease.

New Minigame for Western Players

Originally created for the PocketStation for PlayStation (exclusively in Japan), the excavation minigame titled ‘Dig! Dig! Digger.’ is now implemented in SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered and is available to play in western regions for the first time.

The player will have the ability to attain items with the help of diggers that have joined the game and help excavate for them. It will feature multiple character graphics as well as the option to choose three diggers instead of one like the original game.

With the addition of all these new features and renovations from the original game, SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered aims to give newer fans and long time veterans the chance to experience the same story in a new and more engaging way.

The physical version SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered will release on June 5 in Southeast Asia. The availability of the game may also differ from different regions and platforms, so it is important to check in with your local games store before seeking out to purchase the game.
