Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially unveiled Project Defiant, the first-ever wireless fight stick designed specifically for PlayStation 5 and PC.
This sleek and powerful controller is built to provide fighting game fans with greater flexibility – supporting both ultra-low latency wireless gameplay through PlayStation Link technology and traditional wired USB-C connectivity.
Innovative Design Tailored for Fighting Games
Project Defiant is equipped with a custom-designed digital stick, engineered in-house by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It includes toolless, swappable restrictor gates (square, circular, and octagonal), mechanical switch buttons, and a touchpad similar to that of the DualSense wireless controller. Designed with comfort and performance in mind, the unit features a sturdy, ergonomic build suitable for extended play sessions.

For added convenience, the controller also features an internal storage compartment for the restrictor gates and the PS Link USB adapter, making it easy to keep everything organized while on the go. It also supports the ability to wake the PS5 wirelessly by holding the PS button.
The controller surface is split between black (left side) and white (right side). The digital stick is positioned on the left, while the right houses the main face buttons in two rows:
- Top row: Square, Triangle, R1, L1
- Bottom row: X, Circle, R2, L2
Along the top edge of the controller, from left to right, are the following controls:
- PS Button
- Lever Mode Switch
- Lock Button
- Share Button
- PlayStation Link Button
- L3 Button
- R3 Button
- Touchpad
- Options Button
Ultra-Low Latency Wireless Performance
Thanks to PlayStation Link, Project Defiant delivers precise, responsive input with ultra-low latency for competitive-level performance on both PS5 and PC. Players also have the option to connect via USB-C for a traditional wired experience.

Built for Portability
Project Defiant comes with a custom sling carry case, offering both protection and portability. The case includes a lever gap to protect the digital stick during transport, ensuring the controller remains secure and travel-ready.
Project Defiant is set to launch in 2026, and Sony Interactive Entertainment will be sharing additional details in the coming months – including the final product name and official release date.
