One Piece: Thousand Storm Announces End of Service After 7 Years of Pirate Adventures

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced that they will be shutting down the services for One Piece: Thousand Storm after 7 years.

As detailed on the game’s official website,  One Piece: Thousand Storm will be wrapping up its 7-year run on 23rd January 2024, at 1 PM (JST).

In the notice of closure, Bandai Namco Entertainment noted that they had ceased operations on microtransactions as of 21st November 2023, thus disabling purchases of paid currency.

However, players who had purchased Rainbow Coins prior to the termination of the in-app sales can still spend them until the end of service.

Note that there was a global version of One Piece: Thousand Storm but it was hit with a shutdown in 2018 and now the Japan version will be following.

Thousand Storm

Developed by DeNA and based on the popular shōnen manga series by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece: Thousand Storm is a co-op action RPG where fans get to control their favorite characters to take down enemies one after another.

Featuring a tap-and-flick control scheme, players can dodge enemy attacks and unleash flashy special moves such as Luffy’s Gum-Gum King Snake or Zoro’s Tourou Sunamon and more.

Throughout its lifetime, One Piece: Thousand Storm has managed to amass a total revenue of over $245 million USD in Japan according to the mobile analyst website, AppMagic.

However, as seen in the graph, the game has an inconsistent performance throughout its lifetime with a strong decline in 2022 onwards.

As of writing, the game had managed to garner total downloads of 5,754,129 with the majority of them from the day of launch.
